Prescriptive Therapeutic Theater

As therapists, there are times when our clients may reach an impasse and are stuck in old patterns that discourage growth.  Psychodrama is an action method that allows clients to concretize their struggles, gain insight into their issues, and role train new behaviors.  We have found action based interventions to  can be extremely helpful in guiding clients toward desired changes.

A group of experienced psychodramatists, trained and certified in working in action not just words, are offering a new service that can help your client deal with an impasse.  This is called the Prescriptive Therapeutic Theater (PTT).

Using the Prescriptive Therapeutic Theater (PTT) will help clients with issues such as:

  • Separation and loss
  • Grief
  • Relationships (personal and professional)
  • Commitment problems
  • Social Isolation
  • Changing old patterns which prevent us from living life fully

The Process of the Prescriptive Therapeutic Theater (PTT):

Step 1) Contact Nan Nally-Seif, LCSW, TEP  at This email address is being protected from spambots. Step 2) Referring therapist meets with the psychodramatist who is conducting or supervising the                                                       prescriptive therapeutic session.

Step 3) The client's history and the present impasse and suggestions from the referring therapist will be                                                       discussed. This information will form the basis of the therapeutic process of the PTT                                                       session.  The referring clinician will jointly determine the goals and objectives of the                                                       session.

Therapeutic Theater Sessions:

  1. The referring therapist may choose to be present as an observer in the session or not.
  1. The structure of the session:

The psychodramatist conducts the session. He/she helps ready (warm-up) the client (protagonist)                   to the prescriptive scene. The scene may be complete in itself or create possibilities of additional,                   related, spontaneous, enactments.

After the enactment the psychodramatist effects closure as the client returns to the referring                   therapist with more insights and skills practiced in action.

Post Session Meeting:

A follow up and additional sessions are offered as needed. In the PTT session the client is supported; limits in confidentiality are respected.  This service is designed to assist the referring clinicians with their ongoing work with their clients.

Prescriptive Therapeutic Theater is an ancillary therapeutic service, not a replacement for other therapeutic methods.

The fee for each PTT session would be equal to the fee collected by the referring therapist.
